Dr. Alexander Ressos is a senior international lawyer with over 25 years of experience in cross-border legal matters. He advises clients on the legal and regulatory structuring of cryptocurrency exchanges, token offerings, and blockchain-based business models, with a strong focus on international compliance, corporate law, and tax.

He regularly acts for clients from Japan seeking to establish or expand crypto-related operations overseas, including the creation of compliant exchange structures, token issuance vehicles, and digital asset custody arrangements. He also supports Japanese stakeholders with legal assessments and legal opinions for crypto exchange token listings and investment decisions.

Dr. Ressos has advised on hundreds of digital asset projects and been involved in transactions exceeding USD 2 billion in value. His clients include cryptocurrency exchanges, blockchain infrastructure providers, DeFi platforms, early-stage founders, and financial institutions. 

He has also acted as a legal advisor to public sector institutions, including the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), and as legal counsel to the Government of Dubai contributed to legislative drafting in the financial sector for the DIFC Authority, the governing body of the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC).

Before founding Ressos Legal Pte. Ltd. in 2017, a specialist boutique law firm in Singapore focused on digital assets, Dr. Ressos was an equity partner at an international law firm. He previously worked at Clifford Chance in their world-class corporate/M&A group as a dual-qualified solicitor (England & Wales) and German attorney. He is also admitted in Hong Kong (currently non-practicing) and holds a Ph.D. in capital markets law.

Dr. Ressos is frequently engaged as legal counsel, arbitration party representative or expert witness in disputes involving digital assets, including cases of fraud, theft and crypto misappropriation. He advises on the recovery of stolen or inaccessible cryptocurrency, asset tracing (including on-chain investigations), freezing orders, and enforcement across multiple jurisdictions. This includes acting against crypto exchanges and operators located outside Japan for Japanese-speaking clients.

Dr. Ressos also advises on cross-border tax structuring, trusts, and asset protection strategies, and was awarded the “TEP” designation as a Registered Trust and Estate Practitioner. From 2017 to 2022, he was a member of the Anti-Money Laundering Committee of the Singapore Law Society.

Having lived in Singapore for over 15 years, Dr. Ressos divides his time between Zug, Singapore, and Hong Kong. He has published extensively and is a regular speaker at leading blockchain and legal conferences worldwide.
